Job Description Summary
The Summer Intern reports to the Director of Common Press, the letterpress and book arts studio at the University of Pennsylvania. The Summer Intern will contribute significantly to summer maintenance and organization, as well as participating in summer printing and workshop teaching activities. This 10-week and 20 hours-per-week opportunity is ideal for an individual with some letterpress printing and type setting experience who would like to advance their experience in studio operations while learning new technical skills.

Job Description
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Studio organization and systems improvement, including contribute to the creation of a type specimen (sample) book and type history sheets.
- Assisting with summer press maintenance, restoration, and some letterpress printing work.
- Supporting some technical experimentation for planning of future programs.
- Contributing to archiving and documentation of Press work.
- Assisting with class visits and workshops.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience in typesetting and letterpress printing (the ideal candidate has experience using a Vandercook cylinder press at an advanced beginner level or more).
- Interest in typography and typographic history.
- Enthusiasm for developing and implementing organizational systems within the context of the letterpress, type, and book arts studio.
- Close attention to detail, with patience for repetitive tasks.
