Chief Information Officer

Vanderbilt University seeks a dynamic, experienced executive to serve as its next Chief Information Officer (CIO). This is an exceptional opportunity to lead and advance IT enterprise-wide at one of the nation’s top-ranked private universities. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, Vanderbilt is globally renowned for its transformative education and research.

The CIO will be tasked with fully evaluating the existing environment and developing an IT vision and strategy that is aligned with the mission and priorities of the institution. The CIO will transform and build a cohesive, integrated team to best serve the current and future needs of Vanderbilt to ensure service excellence and deliver high value, cost-effective technology solutions for all departments and units. The CIO will develop and maintain an appropriate IT organizational structure that effectively supports academic, administrative and research needs and enables transparency and communication around existing services and technology. The CIO will provide the strategic and operational leadership to enable the IT organization to become a leader in higher education.

The CIO will provide strategic organizational leadership to enable better coordination between central and distributed IT units. They will establish a robust and secure technology environment and maximize efficiency across all IT resources while developing and recommending IT governance practices and procedures. The CIO will also have a central role in advancing innovation and digital transformation initiatives across the University.

The CIO will be a collaborative partner who is service-oriented and can build trust, credibility, and consensus with constituents across Vanderbilt. The CIO will be politically astute with a high level of emotional intelligence and business and technical acumen. An ability to build strong relationships, communicate effectively and understand the diverse needs across campus will be essential. The ideal candidate will be a strategic executive with demonstrated success leading IT in a comprehensive institution. An innovative leader with a global vision and knowledge of new trends in technology supporting education and research, the CIO will have the ability to facilitate change and manage priorities effectively in a transforming environment.
