Academic Technology Manager

In this role, you will ensure the ongoing maintenance of our current classroom, lab, meeting room, Audio/Video, digital signage and printer fleet infrastructure while also planning for future upgrades to our hardware, operating systems, and software. You will also engage with your team members to ensure excellent customer service, manage their work using an incident management system, as well as track operational tasks and manage projects. Reporting to the Senior Director of Academic Technology, this role will also assist with the organization of the annual budgetary purchases of hardware and software to support The New School’s academic needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the work of the technical support team by setting the work schedule for the semester, assigning operational/project tasks and tracking progress to completion.
  • Ensure support calls are assigned, picked up, and resolved correctly and that our service support meets or exceeds the Service Level Agreements we set for ourselves.
  • Hire, onboard, and manage the initial and ongoing training of staff members as well as encouraging and mentoring staff during the entire employee lifecycle.
  • Work directly with faculty and students either in person or using various digital communication tools to provide customer service as the top priority.
  • Oversee the purchase of software and hardware, manage software licensing, maintain the inventory of AV equipment and oversee the organization of storage spaces.
  • Responsible for academic hardware and software for AV and print systems throughout campus.
  • Collaborate effectively in ad hoc teams with other staff members within the IT organization.
  • Create and update content for public website and internal knowledge-base.
  • Leverage enterprise systems to maintain and report metrics on usage of tools and services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years professional experience managing a technical support team
  • Experience troubleshooting/upgrading Mac/PC hardware/software in a network.
  • Working knowledge of audio visual control systems such as Extron, Crestron, Avid Audio and Video Editing systems.
  • Experience managing/coordinating projects and delegating tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication skills to get results synchronously and asynchronously
  • Available to work evenings and weekend hours when needed
  • Must be able to lift and carry 35 pounds on a regular basis
  • Ability to adhere to University COVID-19 Policy

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in Higher Education
  • Programming experience with Extron/Crestron controllers
  • Relevant industry certifications e.g. ITIL Certification, InfoComm CTS, Crestron, CompTIA A+, Apple ACMT
  • Familiarity with data management tools and/or a centralized purchasing system
