Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Senior Director, Strategic Initiatives and Communications, the Communication Strategist (CS) serves as a member of the Office of the Vice Dean team to set strategic direction, create tools, and execute plans for communication with our 1,800+ MBA students and 80+ MBA Program staff. This role will research, plan, and create written copy and creative designs for communication from the Vice Dean across multiple platforms.

Job Description

The CS will develop, implement, and manage student communication channels/platforms used across the eight MBA Program offices including Campaign Monitor email, web, MyWharton Salesforce community, listservs, Slack, social media, digital screens, and marketing. The leader required for this role needs to have a positive and collaborative spirit combined with a strategic mindset and deliver results through work with MBA Program cross-functional teams at stages across the student lifecycle (Interdepartmental Communication, Onboarding, Pre-Term), operating in a complex matrix organization. Formulates tactics using data analytics to help the MBA Program administrative teams achieve objectives and outcomes.

Liaise with School-wide partners including Wharton Computing and Wharton Marketing and Communication on technical requirements and optimizing communication tools to meet the needs of our staff and MBA students. Guide training and on-boarding for all users. Liaise with MBA student leaders to identify opportunities for engagement. Monitor and benchmark other School communication and marketing strategies for messaging ideas, best practices, design concepts and creative approaches to communication with targeted audiences.

Consult with the Senior Director on project and program objectives and outcomes, and how this integrates and complements School and University goals. Collect and analyze data for continuing student communication to inform long-term planning and strategic communication goals. Ability to work under their own direction and manage multiple projects with deadlines.

Represent the Office of the Vice Dean on committees and assist in the coordination of MBA Program-wide special events, programs, and other events as needed.

Duties include:

Qualifications:
  • BA/BS and 5-7 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and expereince.
  • 5+ years of experience with program/project Management or equivalent experience, ideally in a cross-functional and technical capacity
  • 5+ years of experience with communications, marketing, and design.
  • Excellence in interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills and the ability to work effectively and drive decision-making across a wide range of constituencies in a diverse higher-education environment
  • Strong experience in higher education, communications, content strategy & technical software implementations for web-based applications like websites, online communities, etc.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects on time and on budget while communicating with key senior leaders
  • Ability to work under their own direction and manage multiple projects with deadlines.
  • Proficient with business process, operations, and metric definition best practices
  • Detail and action-oriented self-starter
  • Familiarity with organizational change management principles
  • Proficient with program and project management principles and practices
