Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream

The Department of Mathematics in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto seeks an enthusiastic and innovative candidate for a Teaching Stream appointment in Mathematics at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2018.

Applicants must have a PhD in mathematics or applied mathematics by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, with preference for at least one-year postdoctoral experience, or other relevant experience after their PhD. Responsibilities will include undergraduate teaching, managing teaching assistants, creation of course materials, curriculum development, and service to the department.

We seek candidates with a record of excellence in teaching and teaching-related scholarly activities, intellectual curiosity to pursue novel and innovative methods of thinking and teaching, and a commitment to pedagogical enquiry and teaching innovation; an interest in establishing a long-term teaching career with the Department; the administrative, organizational, and mentoring skills required to coordinate a large, service course (1000 to 3000 students, with multiple lecture sections, instructors, and TAs); and the mathematical strength necessary to interact with the graduate students, postdocs, and professors in our department.

Such evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated by outstanding letters of reference, teaching evaluations, teaching statement, and a dossier including syllabi submitted as part of the application. In particular, we ask for at least two teaching reference letters addressing the candidate's pedagogical strength and one research letter showing the candidate’s mathematical strength.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
