Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Director of Young Alumni and Student Philanthropy, the Assistant Director of Student Philanthropy will play a critical role in helping to create strategy for The Penn Fund's student and young alumni donor participation and leadership giving efforts.

In addition, the Assistant Director will oversee the organizational and solicitation strategies for Seniors for The Penn Fund-a committee of student volunteers charged with acquiring 1,740 donors or more from their peers prior to the end of each fiscal year. A subset of this committee also will be responsible for encouraging a smaller group of peers to support The Penn Fund at the Benjamin Franklin Society leadership level. The Assistant Director will recruit, train, and provide administrative support to all co-chairs and giving committee members who are part of Seniors for The Penn Fund. In partnership with The Penn Fund marketing team and lead volunteers, they will also develop educational direct marketing efforts for mass solicitation and invitation, assisting with content creation and updating it across all relevant platforms. They will also plan and execute all relevant events pertaining to current undergraduate students, including for our comprehensive educational strategy within Penn It Forward, as well as monitor gift activity to regularly report on progress toward goals. In partnership with colleagues in Alumni Relations, they will support and aid in the development and execution of Penn Traditions programming-especially pertaining to our joint endeavors related to the Student Philanthropy Council (SPC). As an important member of the greater Penn Fund team, the Assistant Director may additionally support projects, initiatives, and events of larger scale, including but not limited to Penn young alumni engagement, the Penn Reunion Volunteer Conference (PRVC), Alumni Weekend, and/or Homecoming.

Job Description

Specific Responsibilities:

Campaign Strategy (25%)
  • Plan, organize, and implement the Seniors for The Penn Fund annual campaign utilizing volunteer outreach, digital fundraising strategies (e-mail, social media, texting, and payment applications), direct mail, events, print advertisements, and personal solicitations.
  • Design, with input from various groups, all marketing materials for Seniors for The Penn Fund and Penn It Forward utilized across all channels.
  • Stay informed about current University development initiatives and undergraduate programming, in particular pertaining to Class Board and Penn Traditions.


Volunteer Management (25%)
  • Recruit, train, and provide strategic support for co-chairs and giving committee volunteers who are part of Seniors for The Penn Fund to ensure progress toward fundraising goals is maintained.
  • Host and/or lead conference calls, individual and group meetings, work sessions, and senior volunteer participation within the annual Penn Reunion Volunteer Conference (PRVC).
  • Collaborate with team members to transition the graduating class into being young alumni and help to maintain their status as both volunteers and donors.
  • Provide projects and mentorship to Penn Fund student workers.


Event Management (25%)
  • Manage, plan, and execute both all events held for Seniors for The Penn Fund and all events held to educate current undergraduate students under the Penn It Forward student philanthropy brand.
  • Attend and/or support yPenn alumni events as well as programs that introduce current undergraduate students to the concept and importance of philanthropy through collaboration with Penn Traditions, especially in partnership with the Student Philanthropy Council (SPC).
  • Submit timely expense reports through Penn's reimbursement system.


Frontline Fundraising (20%)
  • Visit up to 50 leadership prospects from within the graduating class and/or most recent young alumni classes.
  • Monitor and document fundraising progress and volunteer outreach through our donor database and prospecting/ data analysis tools.
  • Maintain knowledge of and familiarity with systems such as Penn Cash and Venmo as vehicles of potential student support.
  • Create and influence strategy to develop plans for undergraduate student philanthropy pipeline leading up to senior year (utilizing Penn It Forward historical context where appropriate).


Additional Opportunities (5%)
  • Explore and take on additional opportunities for the sake of the individual and the team as assigned by the Director of Young Alumni and Student Philanthropy and/or the Executive Director.


Qualifications:
  • BA/BS degree required and 1-3 (Annual Giving Officer A job profile) 3-5 (Annual Giving Officer B job profile) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Desired skills include, but are not limited to, and may be described in other ways: excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills, strong attention to detail, ability to organize and manage multiple projects, and wish to work both individually and collaboratively while contributing to total team culture and effort.
  • Ideally driven and motivated by the possibilities ahead, holds belief that innovation is critical to success, and seeks to support others in creative thinking.
  • Prides oneself on high-quality work and naturally challenges our team to grow every year.
  • Holds knowledge of fundraising principles, concepts, and techniques and is comfortable soliciting gifts from a diverse and engaged donor community.
  • Proficiency in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) preferred in addition to capacity to learn systems and databases unique to the organization.
  • Must be willing to travel as necessary to meet with donors and volunteers.
  • Potential to work nights and/or weekends at limited times of the year.
