Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Department of Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seek candidates for an Associate Professor position in the tenure track. Expertise is required in the specific area of natural language processing approaches to understanding the clinical phenotypes of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Applicants with experience using quantitative behavioral imaging methods such as infrared eye tracking, and tech-based interventions including virtual reality, are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree.

Teaching responsibilities may include training Penn/CHOP medical students, supervising postdoctoral fellows, and providing expertise for trainees who wish to apply a computational linguistics approach to understanding and addressing neuropsychiatric variation.

Research or scholarship responsibilities may include conducting investigations of patterns of vocalization, language, and visual attention among young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their siblings. Responsibilities may include developing and supervising a research and training program focused on using methods from computational linguistics to evaluate, monitor, and ultimately inform real-world interventions to improve everyday function for individuals with neurodevelopmental and neuropsychiatric conditions. Expertise in natural language processing and use of behavioral imaging methods such as infrared eye tracking is required, and experience utilizing computational linguistics approaches to analyze big data is preferred. Successful candidates will have a strong record of submitting and receiving extramural funding from federal sources, such as NIH, conducting research, and publishing original research findings. The successful candidate will also be expected to have a national reputation for research and scholarship.
