Job Description Summary
Establish direction for and oversee all career services, programs and outreach for College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates and alumni who seek support in career development and job search process. Manage and set priorities for the College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate team providing support, mentoring and evaluating performance. Advise College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates and alumni through in-person and virtual appointments. Develop strategic partnerships with campus stakeholders in the development of future collaborative programs and events. Actively engage with employers to understand their changing recruiting needs and strategies for hiring College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates. Directly organize, oversee, and contribute to career fairs. Represent Penn Career Services at employer meetings and professional conferences. Responsible for knowing liberal arts career trends both nationally and globally and about career fields of interest to College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates. Supervise Associate Directors, Administrative Coordinator and Graduate Assistants. Receive administrative direction from and report to Director of Undergraduate Career Initiatives.

Job Description

Responsibilities
  • Establish direction and oversee all career services, programs and outreach for College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate students and alumni
  • Manage and set priorities for the College of Arts and Sciences team (2.5 Associate Directors, 1 Administrative Coordinator, 2 Graduate Assistants) providing support, mentoring and evaluating performance.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of an office-wide strategic plan, and use this as a basis for developing innovative programs and resources for College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates
  • Advise College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate students and alumni through in-person and virtual appointments.
  • Stay up-to-date on liberal arts related employment trends and careers relevant to the broad range of College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates
  • Play a leading role in developing digital content and resources for the website and social media to provide students and alumni with access to fresh and engaging career resources
  • Develop strategic partnerships with campus stakeholders in the development of future collaborative programs and events
  • Actively engage with employers to understand their changing recruiting needs and strategies for hiring College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates. Provide recommendations on best practices for employers with job and internship openings working with Employer Relations team.
  • Support the oversight of the Career Plans/First Destination Survey data collection process for College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates in collaboration with the Data Visualizations & Analytics Manager
  • Explore new opportunities to collect and use data on College of Arts and Sciences undergraduate career preferences
  • Directly organize, oversee, and contribute to Fall and Spring career fairs
  • Represent Penn Career Services at professional meetings/conferences and become involved with local/national professional associations
  • Willingness to contribute to and eventually lead one of the Career Services committees and/or University Life working groups
  • Receive administrative supervision from and report to the Director of Undergraduate Career Initiatives.


Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree or more is required and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise professional and support staff and support their professional and career development.
  • Motivation to take initiative in evolving our approaches to undergraduate career support as part of a multi-team office. Proven ability in program planning and implementation, communication and teamwork, with a strategic mindset to create recognizable events that create value and impact beyond our office
  • Desire to create innovative programming reflecting the changing needs of undergraduates and the world of work.
  • Demonstrated advising skills and cultural competence to work with a diverse range of College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates applying to a variety of careers.
  • Outstanding presentation skills in different formats for different audiences, with comfort creating digital content and resources.
  • Eagerness to learn and apply new technologies and tools
  • Quick learner, with ability to assimilate and retain large volumes of information on career fields.
  • Collaborative nature with a willingness to work across teams.
  • Creative problem-solver addressing situations quickly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated relationship building and networking skills.
  • Effective multi-tasker, with ability to effectively juggle multiple priorities.
