Assistant Professor Teaching Stream in Chinese Language and Culture/Language Teaching and Learning

The Department of Language Studies, University of Toronto Mississauga, invites applications for a teaching stream appointment in Chinese (Mandarin) Language and Culture, and Language Teaching and Learning at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream. The position start date is July 1st, 2018.

We seek candidates whose teaching and research expertise is in Chinese language and culture, as well as in Language Teaching and Learning/Second Language Pedagogy. By the start date of the appointment, the successful candidate must have completed a PhD in First or Second Language Education or (Applied) Linguistics with a focus on Chinese, or in Chinese Literature and Culture with a focus on language education. Candidates must have an extensive knowledge of recent advances in pedagogical theory as they apply to Chinese Language instruction, a solid teaching experience at the university level, as well as excellent teaching skills. Evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogy will be illustrated through outstanding teaching evaluations, a demonstrated commitment to best pedagogical practices, strong letters of reference from referees endorsing excellent teaching, and the teaching dossier including a teaching statement, submitted as part of the application. Native or near-native fluency in Mandarin and a strong command of oral and written English are required.

The successful candidate will be involved in teaching at the undergraduate level, coordination and development of Chinese language courses, supervision of the Chinese Minor Program as well as the development of Chinese language curricular materials and teaching tools.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
