The role oversees and directs daily operations for the Office for Students, including strategic, operational, and financial operations as they relate to recruitment and enrollment of students into academic programs, financial aid, and student life. This is a high-visibility position that represents the school in multiple venues and advises the Dean and Senior Leadership team on the best strategic interests of the school in the areas of admissions, financial aid, and student life.

Job Description

The Assistant Dean of Admissions and Student Life oversees and directs daily operations for the Office for Students, including strategic, operational, and financial operations as they relate to recruitment and enrollment of students into academic programs, financial aid, and student life. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record and vision for success in the following areas:
  • Holistic approach to student recruitment and financial aid that incorporates best practices, data analysis and metrics, and reporting in support of the admissions function
  • Emphasis on access, inclusion, and opportunity to ensure an exciting and enriching environment and experience for all students
  • Ability to interpret academic policies and exercise authority with independent judgment
  • Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders in support of institutional, student-centric priorities including the Offices of Education and Academic Success; Finance; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Counseling and Psychological Services; Communications; and Alumni .
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team of administrative personnel organized across three functional areas (admissions; financial aid; and student life) and sustain a departmental culture of teamwork, constituent focus, learning mindset, and operational excellence
  • Commitment to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education
  • Management of a department budget, including forecasting future needs
  • Ability to interpret data and develop/implement evidence-based strategies
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required (advanced degree preferred) with at least 10 years of Admissions, Financial Aid, and/or Student Services related experience - preferably graduate/professional admissions in a large academic and research focused university; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of current trends and best practices in admissions, financial aid, and student services. Experience supervising and working collaboratively within teams and inspiring trust and confidence among staff. Excellent interpersonal, project, and presentation skills including verbal and written communication skills, strong strategic planning and operations management skills, and the ability to multi-task and synthesize data for evidence-based decision-making. A commitment to customer and student-focused service and experience recruiting students from diverse backgrounds.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills as an advocate and champion for diversity, equity, inclusivity, and accessibility, and an unwavering commitment to advancing these principles in every facet of the department's activities. Willingness to occasionally travel and work evenings/weekends required with an emphasis upon increasing the School's visibility and cultivating relationships with institutions serving underrepresented minority students. Willingness to participate in relevant University committees and task forces.
