The University of Arkansas System invites nominations and applications for the position of chancellor of the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. The university seeks a dynamic leader who will provide strategic leadership to shape and support the university’s growth as the state’s only R-1 university and its land-grant mission of teaching, discovery, and service. Founded in 1871, the University of Arkansas (U of A) is the flagship campus of the UA System with 10 colleges and schools offering more than 240 academic programs. The university’s annual budget is more than $1 billion, its total research and sponsored program expenditures total more than $164.4 million, with 1,490 faculty and more than 29,000 students who represent all 50 states and 120 countries. The university is the state’s foremost partner and resource for education and economic development, feeding more than $2.2 billion back into the state economy. It serves as the major provider of graduate-level instruction in Arkansas and its public service activities reach every county in Arkansas, throughout the nation and around the world.

The university is located in Fayetteville in the hilly northwest corner of Arkansas and includes two arboreta overlooking the Ozark Mountains. Some of the nation’s best outdoor amenities and most spectacular hiking trails are within a short drive of campus. Fayetteville is routinely considered among the country’s finest college towns, and the surrounding Northwest Arkansas region is regularly ranked one of the best places to live in the U.S. as well as recently being named among the nation’s Top 25 Most Dynamic Metros.

The next chancellor of the University of Arkansas will help elevate the institution into an exciting new period. With growing enrollment and student quality, robust and nationally recognized research activities, a talented pool of faculty, a recently completed $1.45 billion capital campaign, a nationally competitive athletics program, and a climate ripe for collaboration and progress, the university’s future is bright.

The next chancellor will be an experienced and visionary leader, as well as an accomplished scholar who understands that research and teaching excellence, together with service and public engagement, are at the very heart of the land-grant university. The chancellor reports to the president of the UA System and to the Board of Trustees and serves as the chief executive officer of the university. The chancellor is responsible for all operations of the university, including overall leadership and management of the institution, its academic and research enterprises, a major Division 1 athletics program, fundraising and mobilization of all constituents including faculty, alumni, staff, students, community, corporate, foundation and local and state government leaders to meet the institutional, system and regional goals. The chancellor will lead the continuing transformation of the university as it achieves further academic and research advances and propel the institution among the nation’s top public research universities. Under the chancellor’s leadership, university affairs are conducted in keeping with state laws and the policies and procedures established by the president and the board.
