Athens State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (COAS). Reporting directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, the new dean will work collaboratively with faculty, students, and staff to develop programs in the arts, humanities, and social and natural sciences that support the mission of Athens State University by empowering students "to make valuable contributions in their professional, civic, educational, and economic endeavors."

Founded in 1822, Athens State University is one of a few institutions in the country to offer only upper-division (junior and senior) and graduate programs. As one of the University's three Colleges, the COAS comprises 30 faculty and seven staff members, and offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Bachelor of Science degrees across more through the Department of Behavioral Sciences, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Department of Fine and Performing Arts, and the Department of Mathematical, Computer and Natural Sciences. Additionally, COAS also offers a Master of Arts in Religious Studies, a Master of Science in Computer Science, and a Master of Science in Cybersecurity.

Located in the heart of the Tennessee Valley region, roughly 24 miles west of Huntsville, Athens is an attractive, quintessential, Southern city. The regional economy has enjoyed robust investment from public and private sources, and the automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, government service, and cybersecurity industries are all growing. Athens State is well positioned to contribute to and capitalize on the continued economic success of the region.
