Job Description Summary
We are seeking a talented and motivated scientist to participate in exciting team-oriented research investigating the function of novel genes/pathways associated with insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (identified through human genetic analyses).

Job Description

At the outset, you will develop and validate primary and iPSC models of insulin responsive cell types including hepatocytes, adipocytes and muscle. Using these models, you will then study T2D-associated genes and variants by applying a variety of techniques including CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing, gene expression profiling, protein signaling, genomic studies and functional assays. There will be ample opportunity to interact with our collaborators who are performing complementary experiments using in vivo mouse models and computational biologists who are identifying candidate T2D genes using bioinformatics approaches. You will also have some effort in generating iPSC-derived cell types for our collaborators on the project. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a highly talented team that will potentially lead to multiple publications.

Qualifications:

All positions:

Must have strong background in molecular biology techniques including restriction enzyme digestion, PCR, qRT-PCR; proficient in nucleic acid analysis software tools for PCR primer design and manipulation of nucleic acid sequences; experience with CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing in cell lines or animals highly desirable

Experience (in laboratory setting, not in classroom) in mammalian cell culture and Fluorescence Activated Cell Sorting (FACS) required; experience with hESC/hiPSC culture highly desirable

Must have excellent written/verbal communication and organizational skills

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Photoshop software tools

Research Specialist A: Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences and 0-1 year of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Some relevant hands-on laboratory experience preferred.

Research Specialist B: Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences and at least 1-2 years of post-degree relevant hands-on laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Research Specialist C: Bachelor's degree in the biological sciences and at least 3 to 5 years of post-degree relevant hands-on laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Research Specialist D: Master's degree in the biological sciences and at least 3 to 5 years of post-degree relevant hands-on laboratory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. PhD degree preferred in the biological sciences with at least one first-author published work.
