Job Description Summary
This position oversees the overall international student and scholar integration strategic agenda for International Student and Scholar Services and is a key position within ISSS focusing on creating a welcoming and inclusive community for international students and scholars at the University of Pennsylvania in order to support their successful integration. Works across the University with Schools, VPUL and other units to ensure coherence and best practices in support of international students and scholars. Supports all international students, scholars specifically regarding integration programs, campus inclusion, as well as heightening awareness, understanding, and service delivery to meet the unique needs of all international students. Enhances the student-learning environment through programs and services that internationalize the campus experience.

Job Description

● Lead the codification of international student integration in partnership with Penn stakeholders such as schools and centers (2%)

● Lead educational programs to enhance positive international student engagement; to develop faculty and staff sensitivity to cultural differences and international student needs, and to assist in the understanding of and adjustment to a host country's educational system and culture; (2%)

● Lead the development, coordination of programs and services for international students and scholars to create a welcoming and supportive campus where international students can thrive and be successful academically and personally (2%)

● Lead the the delivery of special orientation programs to enhance knowledge and understanding of the institution, the host country's educational system, and the culture of the host country in general, as well as programs to address issues related to re-entry to the student's home country (2%)

● Lead the Integration and Community Engagement team in ISSS in developing strategic plans to enhance the Penn international student and scholar experience; (30%)

● Lead the advocacy within the institution for the needs of international students. (2%)

● Supervise the Program Coordinator and Marketing and Outreach Coordinator to ensure a robust execution and delivery of integration programs; (20%)

● Serve a primary role in advancing the international student integration strategic initiative of Penn Global and the International Student and Scholar Services; (2%)

● Coordinates outreach efforts to expand the integration and engagement initiatives, including targeted marketing, partnership with campus partners (2%)

● Conduct significant outreach to Penn schools, departments, centers, student organizations, and all Penn students to identify needs of international students and support the successful delivery of integration programs; (2%)

● Liaise with and provide referrals to students on matters relating to academic, social, and cultural adjustment; (2%)

● Advise campus partners on international student perspectives to enhance programming; (2%)

● Establish and maintain liaison with relationships with key personnel at international high schools, community colleges, agencies, sponsoring organizations, ESL centers, other community colleges, four-year colleges, professional organizations and other entities that work directly with populations of international students, to enhance retention and share information about procedures. (2%)

● Spearhead the administration, implementation and ensure the success of Penn Forerunner Program, Penn Intercultural Leadership Program, Penn Forerunner Program, Penn World Scholars. (30%)

● Launch the Global Penn Student (GPS) Navigators (6%)

● Play a central role in student feedback initiatives in partnership with student groups (ISTAR, ISAB, AIS, GAPSA) (10%)

● Coordinate the Building International Student Integration Group (BISIG), a cross -School initiative to increase awareness of international student related challenges, forge partnerships and ensure a wide range of international student integration programs (10%)

● Develop innovative programs to assist international students in meeting academic, personal, professional and career goals(2%)

Required Qualifications:

● Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's preferred.

● At least 1-3 years of experience leading and managing a team.

● 2-3 years working in international related programs and advising student organization in an education setting, preferably higher education institutions.

● Extensive experience with programming and promoting evens for university populations.

● An understanding of international student needs and of international student integration, and the ability to put this knowledge into practice.

● Demonstrated ability to work with international and culturally diverse populations.

● Ability to multitask and adapt to changing demands and priorities.

● Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

● Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

● Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills and ability to communicate effectively across cultures, both individually and in group settings.

● Requires experience providing services to a diverse student/international student constituency at the post secondary level and a solid understanding of needs of international students, specifically regarding integration programs, campus inclusion, as well as heightening awareness, understanding, and service delivery to meet the unique needs of all international students. Enhances the student-learning environment through programs and services that internationalize the campus experience.

● Must be sensitive to different cultures and have a strong commitment to broadly defined diversity.

● The ability to work both independently and collaborate with a team is essential as are excellent oral and written communication skills.

● This position requires flexible work hours including evenings, weekends, and some holidays.

Desired Qualifications:

● Experience managing programs for international students and scholars

● Knowledge of the University of Pennsylvania environment

● Overseas experience (living, studying, working) for an extended period

● Must meet federal regulations required to serve as a Designated School Official(DSO).

● Knowledge of Federal regulations related to student immigration is important.Certain requirements are subject to possible modification to accommodate individuals with disabilities
