The University of Southern Maine seeks to fill a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Sport Management starting in the Fall of 2018. The USM Sport Management major is housed within the Business Administration Department in the AACSB accredited USM School of Business located in Portland, Maine. Applicants for this position should desire to be part of a committed team of faculty which works closely together to deliver high quality Sport Management education and experiences to our students.

Candidates should be interested in teaching a variety of Sport Management courses across our curriculum which currently includes—Intro to Sport Management, Sport Marketing, Sport Finance, Sport Law, Sport Event Management, Sport Communication, Sport Sponsorship/Sales, Facility Management, Athletic Administration, and, Sport Management Seminar. The typical teaching load is 3 courses per semester. Primary duties will include, but are not limited to, undergraduate teaching within the Sport Management Program, research/scholarship, student advising, supervision of Sport Management student internships, and, department/university service. On occasion, applicants may be asked to teach a Sport Management graduate course or a course which supports the business core. Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Sport Management, or closely related field, by the time of appointment (estimated 8/27/18).
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching with interest/experience in teaching across multiple Sport Management areas. Candidates who have experience with innovative learning technologies and/or program/course assessment will be viewed favorably.
  • An active research agenda which leads to peer-reviewed publications.
  • Commitment to/experience in fully engaging with students as a faculty, advisor, and mentor.
  • Commitment to departmental/university service.
  • Collegial, team player with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Candidates with sport industry work experience will be viewed favorably.
  • Candidates with experience or interest in program/curricular development will be viewed favorably.
