The Director for the Master of Science in Organizational Dynamics (MSOD), Master of Philosophy in Organizational Dynamics (MPhil), and Dynamics Learning Exchange (DLE) supports LPS' mission to deliver innovative education programs that meet the highest standards of excellence. The Director helps shape the vision for and recommends strategic goals for the program, cultivates external partnerships, and identifies strategic growth opportunities. The Director oversees curriculum, instruction, assessment and financial outcomes for Dynamics programs. The position teaches and supervises administrative and instructional staff.

Job Description

DUTIES

The Director for the Master of Science in Organizational Dynamics (MSOD), Master of Philosophy in Organizational Dynamics (MPhil), and Dynamics Learning Exchange (DLE) supports LPS' mission to deliver innovative education programs that meet the highest standards of excellence. The Director shapes the vision for and recommends strategic goals for the program, including new entrepreneurial programming to meet emerging workforce and student needs. The Director cultivates external partnerships with corporate and not-for-profit organizations, and develops and works with an External Advisory Board to identify strategic growth opportunities. S/he recruits and collaborates with faculty, from within and outside the School of Arts and Sciences' tenured faculty, to develop innovative curriculum that meets workforce needs and Penn's high standards of academic excellence. S/he structures and runs the program to yield highly satisfied and successful participants while maintaining a robust and increasing enrollment of outstanding students, adhering to the high-quality standards demanded by programs in the School of Arts and Sciences. In collaboration with the LPS Director of Graduate Programs, LPS Enrollment Management, and the Dynamics program staff, the Director develops and implements strategic employer partnerships and networks, and curriculum to support strategic recruitment, prospect management activities, and admissions for the MSOD and MPhil programs, and for DLE. To ensure that these programs adhere to the highest standards of excellence, the Director oversees assessment of academic and financial outcomes for these programs. The Director reports to the Director of Graduate Programs and works collaboratively with program staff as well as staff in the LPS academic programs, enrollment services, recruitment and admissions departments, as well as with a Faculty Advisory Committee, program teaching faculty, and other offices and departments in the University. S/he teaches in the program. The position supervises an Administrative Director, an Administrative Coordinator, and oversees the instructional staff for the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Curriculum & Instruction: Maintain, improve, develop and deliver distinctive and innovative curriculum for Organizational Dynamics programs; determine annual course rosters; recruit faculty from relevant departments in the School of Arts & Sciences and the academic community as well as relevant industry professionals to deliver an academically rigorous curriculum each semester. Orient and mentor instructors; work with them to address student concerns, course delivery issues, and access to resources. Manage instructor performance and provide feedback. Oversee and coordinate the capstone process; facilitate engagement between students and faculty; teach in the program. Strengthen the academic experience to continually improve learning outcomes. Convene the Faculty Advisory Committee to provide ongoing review of program, student performance, and course evaluations.

Enrollment Services: With Administrative Director and LPS Enrollment Management, set enrollment goals and strategies for the master's and associated programming. Oversee the recruitment and admissions processes. Organize and serve on the Admissions Committee to make decisions regarding the admissibility of applicants into the program. Work collaboratively with staff to meet enrollment targets and develop recruitment events.

Academic Operations: Oversee and manage the master's degree and associated programming. Advise enrolled students regarding career options, course selections, course performance, research opportunities, and capstone preparation. Collaborate with Administrative Director on activities to support student retention, completion and placement.

Alumni Relations: Develop and implement a strategic plan for establishing and maintaining alumni relations. Strengthen alumni engagement with current and prospective students via programmatic events.

Employer Outreach and Engagement: Cultivate external partnerships with corporate and not-for- profit organizations to support program and student career outcomes. Develop and work with an External Advisory Board to identify strategic growth opportunities and ensure relevance of program curriculum to employer needs.

Program Assessment and Development: Support LPS mission to deliver innovative education programs that meet the highest standards of excellence. Develop learning outcomes assessment plans, draft annual assessment reports, and implement recommendations based on findings. Together with Administrative Director and LPS senior staff, establish financial performance goals and manage annual operations and budgets to achieve goals. Identify new programming opportunities and work with LPS team to develop, launch and support entrepreneurial programming associated with Organizational Dynamics.

Supervision: Supervise Administrative Director and Administrative Coordinator.

Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

PhD. in Management, Organizational Sociology, or a related field and a minimum of one to three years professional experience working outside academia. The candidate must have proven organizational and leadership skills including effective communication of vision, goals, expectations and performance feedback. The candidate must have demonstrated success in implementing strategic and management goals, teaching experience in a university setting, established networks/relationships with corporate or non-profit organizations, and a proven record designing and delivering successful, rigorous continuing education or graduate programs as measured by multiple criteria (academic excellence, student success and satisfaction, enrollment and revenue growth). Must have outstanding oral and written communication skills, demonstrated ability to interact with professional students, and be able to work successfully as part of a team. Able to work some evenings and weekends. Preferred: Knowledge of current trends in continuing and professional education.
