Salem, Oregon

Willamette University, a private liberal arts university in Salem, Oregon, with a satellite campus in the heart of Portland, Oregon, seeks a strategic, entrepreneurial leader to become Dean of the George H. Atkinson Graduate School of Management (AGSM). The Dean will lead the School at a critical time and develop and execute a strategy to strengthen its competitive position and ensure its long-term academic and financial success.

The Dean will reinforce the School’s strategy and programs that focus on rigorous academics, experiential and consequential learning, entrepreneurial thinking, and the intersection of for-profit, not-for-profit, and public management. As well, the Dean will use the school’s distinctions and unique location in the Pacific Northwest to cultivate the alumni and donor support necessary for future success.

Established in 1975, AGSM currently enrolls approximately 260 students in professional and full-time MBA programs and offers certificate programs through the Executive Development Center (EDC). The School is a tightly knit community of 18 tenure/tenure-track faculty members and an administrative team committed to delivering AGSM’s mission and serving student goals through high quality academics, applied learning, individualized career programming and abundant leadership opportunities.

The successful candidate will be an innovative leader with the intellectual and managerial skills to position AGSM as a hub that connects the most talented management students in the region with the best employers in the Northwest. The Dean should demonstrate a reputation for integrity and visionary leadership and a proven track record of success as an entrepreneur and innovator in an academic setting or in one of the sectors AGSM serves. The role requires the ability to serve as the public face of the School and tell a compelling story to AGSM’s many audiences. The Dean will be an accessible leader with the ability to create an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences. Proven budgetary and financial management skills and experience developing successful marketing and branding strategies are also a priority. A PhD is preferred but not required.
