The University of South Florida Tampa (USF), a comprehensive, metropolitan public university seeks a transformational, inspirational, energetic, and relational leader to serve as Dean of the College of Education (COEDU). As an emerging preeminent university designated by the Florida Board of Governors, USF is on the cusp of achieving full preeminence, opening the door to further national prominence and eventual eligibility for Association of American Universities (AAU) membership. As the fourth-largest public university in the state of Florida, USF is known as a high-impact global research university dedicated to student success and retention.

The COEDU offers 10 undergraduate programs, over 20 masters and doctoral degree programs, and 19 advanced degree certificates (online and on-campus). At a time when the skills and pedagogy of classroom teachers and school administrators is more important than ever, the College of Education offers state-of-the-art teacher training and collaborative and collegial graduate and undergraduate studies designed to empower educational leaders. Total enrollment for the College in the 2016-2017 academic years was approximately 1200 students. With more than 13,500 education degrees awarded over the last 10 years, the College of Education has graduated the second largest number of educators in Florida.

USF is seeking an accomplished scholar, visionary leader and proven academic administrator to become the next COEDU Dean. The ideal candidate will be a transformative and inspirational individual who can build on faculty strengths to provide a long-range vision, specific strategies, and detailed administrative and fiscal provisions to achieve the mission of a forward-thinking, technologically advanced, sustainable, and globally-innovative COEDU. The Dean will understand and promote the potential for collaborations between the COEDU and other USF Colleges and community partners in strategically growing enrollments, building resources and building innovative programs for the College. The Dean will be an external representation of COEDU and lead philanthropic efforts.

USF has retained Isaacson, Miller, a national executive search firm, to assist in this important recruitment. After extensive consultation with a wide range of stakeholders and drawing on the University’s existing materials, this document has been prepared to describe the personal and professional characteristics that the ideal candidate should possess.
