Long Island University (LIU) was founded in 1926 in Brooklyn, New York, under the guiding principle of educating and empowering men and women from all walks of life. LIU has grown into one of the nation’s largest private universities and remains committed to the educational needs and interests of its diverse student body.
Under the leadership of Dr. Kimberly Cline, an academic and institutional innovator and LIU’s 10th president, the institution is embarking upon a dynamic period of change and progress. In her three years as president, the university has maintained a strong liberal arts core and range of professional studies while emerging as a leader in providing real-life opportunities in such fields as technology, public relations, financial investing and fashion merchandising; and the university has experienced the strongest operating results in its history. As LIU embraces its future plans with optimism and energy it seeks a new senior vice president for academic affairs to lead the academic mission and take it to higher levels of quality and success.
LIU offers more than 500 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programs and certificates, educating more than 20,000 students each year on campuses in Brooklyn, Brookville (Post), Brentwood, Riverhead, Rockland and Westchester. The university continuously strives to cultivate and expand academic, professional, artistic and co-curricular opportunities.
LIU is seeking an experienced academic leader with the vision, leadership and management qualities necessary to further build on the institution’s academic standing. The senior vice president oversees the vice president of academic affairs of the LIU Brooklyn and LIU Post campuses as well as the dean/chief operating officers for both LIU Riverhead/LIU Brentwood and LIU Hudson. Partnering closely with President Cline to form new strategic academic partnerships and cultivate a more robust university research profile, the new senior vice president will have an unwavering commitment to students and their success, a strong allegiance to academic excellence and scholarship, a deep commitment to shared governance and the personal qualities to thrive in the LIU community. Experience within a complex university environment or system is highly desired. An earned terminal degree and a record of teaching and scholarship that merits appointment at full professor are required.
