Instructional Designer

Responsibilities:  The Instructional Designer works in a team environment with Distance Education and Instructional Design staff to provide support for technology-enhanced teaching and learning activities delivered via face to face, blended, ITV, and online environments. A senior member of the team, the Instructional Designer’s primary job responsibility is to collaborate with faculty to design and implement new technology-enhanced courses/programs and adapt existing courses/programs for delivery via online, ITV, hybrid and other emerging distance learning delivery methods. The Instructional Designer will determine and implement the appropriate instructional design methodology that will provide an active student-centered learning environment. He/she will contribute to the success of Distance Education and Instructional Services by demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm, and a commitment to providing a quality learning environment.

Qualifications:  Master’s degree in Instructional Design; or a Master’s degree in a closely related field and two years’ experience in instructional design in an online environment. Knowledge of instructional technologies associated with technology-enhanced instruction including in depth knowledge of at least one Learning Management System (LMS). Knowledge of appropriate pedagogies for web assisted, blended, and fully online courses including both synchronous and asynchronous delivery methods. Must be familiar with instructional technologies commonly used in online courses such as wikis, blogs, steaming audio and video, and podcasts. Must be able to perform all duties and responsibilities as specified above. Must be a customer-oriented individual with excellent communication skills. Must work well in a team environment.

Desired Qualifications:  Ph.D. or EdD. in Instructional Design is preferred. Knowledge of multiple LMS systems (i.e., Blackboard, Moodle, Desire2Learn), graphics software, and multimedia applications, such as Macromedia Flash and Adobe Photoshop also preferred. The ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and experience in higher education is desired.
