Dean, School of Education, Saint Louis University

Saint Louis University (“SLU”) is a world-class Catholic, Jesuit institution educating nearly 13,000 students. The University will soon celebrate a 200-year legacy of innovative academics and research, compassionate health care, and faithful service. Saint Louis University attracts a diverse community of scholars who push intellectual boundaries in pursuit of creative, meaningful ways to change the world, striving to serve a higher purpose and seek a greater good.

Ranked #96 by U.S. News & World Report, SLU boasts more than a dozen academic programs in the top 50 in their fields and several in the top 10, along with accolades for campus sustainability efforts, military-friendliness, and as a “best value” in private education. SLU is also the first Jesuit university to receive Insight into Diversity’s Higher Education Excellence in Diversity award. Designated a Carnegie higher research university, SLU empowers students to collaborate with faculty mentors on groundbreaking research and gain hands-on experience.

The School of Education (“SOE”) shares in the 470-year-old Jesuit tradition of excellence in education, which focuses on the growth of the whole person - intellectually, emotionally, and spiritually. The programs in the School of Education share a commitment to intellectual rigor and the use of knowledge for the betterment of the local, national, and global community.

The School, established in 1925, offers programs in teacher education, higher education, and educational leadership. SOE sees particular opportunities for growth in special education, including opportunities to collaborate with other faculty in communication sciences and disorders, occupational therapy, developmental pediatrics, and psychology.

The School is recognized as a leader in the state and region. More than 30 percent of the public school superintendents in Missouri and 42 percent of all Catholic school leaders in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis hold degrees from SLU.

The Dean of the School of Education, reporting to the Provost, will lead the School’s research activities, academic programs, fundraising, outreach, finances and other operations. Arriving at a transitional period in the School’s development and self-definition, the Dean will be expected to work with the faculty in the evolution of the School with respect to research and grant productivity, teaching, and innovation in education. Building on the strength of its current programs, faculty research, and grants, the School has recently implemented a reorganization such that the School is poised to move to the next level, enhancing its reputation, attractiveness to students, and ability to attract research funding.
