SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, one of only 130 academic medical centers in the country, invites applications and nominations for a collaborative and visionary leader to serve as the next Dean of the College of Health Professions. Reporting directly to the President of Upstate Medical University, the Dean is the chief academic and administrative officer of the college and will provide leadership, energy and vision to guide the college to meet ever-changing healthcare needs now and in the future. The Dean will work with institutional leaders to enhance the mission of the college and the university.
While programs in the Health Professions have been in existence at Upstate since 1956, the College of Health Professions was formally established in 1971. The College offers baccalaureate, masters and professional doctorate degrees through eleven degree tracks including accredited programs in Cardiovascular Perfusion, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Imaging, Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, Radiation Therapy and Respiratory Therapy. All have consistently excellent outcomes. Upstate Medical University is also home to University Hospital and the College has formal agreements with more than 1,000 clinical affiliates across the country.

The successful candidate will possess: a terminal academic degree (e.g., PhD/EdD, DSc), and professional experience in a discipline directly relevant to the programmatic offerings of the college; a record of achievement in teaching, scholarship, and service sufficient for appointment as a tenured full professor in the college; a strong, sustained record of senior leadership and administrative experience in support of students and faculty in teaching, service and scholarship excellence in a health professions college; exceptional communication skills; experience with accreditation standards and procedures relevant to those within the professions of the college; experience managing budgets in an academic institution, and demonstrated understanding and commitment to working as a member of a campus senior academic leadership team.
