Carolina Development seeks an Assistant Director of Gift Planning to make up a team of five professional fundraisers and three professional administrators. Travel will be required. The Assistant Director will:  Represent the tradition, mission, programs and needs of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill to all constituent groups and serve as a liaison between the Office of University Development and development officers of schools, units and affiliated foundations.  The Assistant Director will directly solicit donors and work closely with their financial advisors and attorneys regarding the structure of lifetime and testamentary gifts that will benefit the University.  Provide active, ongoing personal stewardship of donors.  Oversee the Gift Planning marketing program.

Principal Functions:

  • Direct solicitation of donors. Work closely with the Director of Gift Planning, alumni and friends of the University and their financial advisors and attorneys regarding the structure of lifetime and testamentary gifts that will benefit the University. Provide active, ongoing personal stewardship of donors.
  • Oversee the Gift Planning marketing program including:  work with the Executive Director to create the annual marketing plan; coordinate all aspects of production of marketing materials with the marketing companies, printers and the Marketing and Communications Department; manage responses and assign prospects to appropriate gift planning and/or development staff; track results and prepare reports for executive Director.
  • Coordination of real estate program. Monitor and maintain list of all prospective gifts of real estate. Set up accounts and prepare all documentation needed for proper gift receipting after closing.  Work with real property office to ensure smooth coordination and maintain the real estate inventory list.

Education Requirements:  A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Qualification and Experience Requirements:

Leading candidates will have demonstrated superior interpersonal, oral and written communications skills, a basic understanding of gift planning and success in a development position or related field, such as major fundraising, trusts, financial planning or law. Candidates will also have the ability to work both independently and as a team player in a fast-paced office, meet high goals and interact effectively with alumni, friends, faculty and staff in a research university.
