Job Summary

The Department of Exercise Science and Community Health invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Exercise Science (tenure accruing position).

The position requires an earned Doctorate in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field and expertise in the field of human motor behavior (motor learning and/or motor control), motor development and biomechanics. Applicants should have evidence of a research agenda that will guide the candidate’s scholarly career in meaningful research; participate in department, college, and university committees; supervise field-base experiences; be actively involved in professional organizations; and collaborate with community partners.

As a successful candidate, you will have a commitment to teaching excellence and be required to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in motor learning, motor development, biomechanics, and measurements and evaluation. Ability to teach courses in research methods, statistics, and other exercise science related courses is also desirable.

Applicants should have a focused line of research; publications in scholarly journals; and evidence of success in or strong potential for obtaining extramural funding from federal, foundation, and/or industry sources.

Additional responsibilities include: thesis and dissertation committees, internship and career advising of majors, and participating in University and community service.

Preferred Qualifications

  • An earned Doctoral degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field and expertise in the field of human motor behavior (motor learning and/or motor control), motor development, biomechanics however ABD candidates will be considered.
  • Evidence of a clear research agenda that will guide the candidate’s scholarly career.
  • Demonstrated success in external funding and research publications.
  • Potential to become a leader in research field.
  • University teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Strong interest in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research.
