VICE PRESIDENT FOR DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION

Nazareth College, a coeducational, private, religiously independent institution, seeks a strategic and visionary leader to serve as Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion (hereafter referred to as Vice President or VPDI). The successful candidate will be a collaborative convener and boundary-spanning agent of change with a strong commitment to the value of a liberal arts education and demonstrated experience as a skilled administrator and diversity advocate. Reporting to the President, the Vice President will inform the strategic discussion advancing diversity and inclusion across the College and, working closely with the President and other key campus leaders, will build, guide, and assess policies and practices that encourage diversity and inclusion as a means of propelling the College’s bold vision from aspiration to actualization.

Located seven miles from Rochester, New York, Nazareth College serves approximately 2,160 undergraduate students and over 700 graduate students, and offers a dynamic learning community that educates students in the liberal arts, sciences, visual and performing arts, and professional fields. The College’s charming wooded campus is situated on 150 acres in Pittsford, New York, and the surrounding community offers an affordable cost-of-living and easy access to the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes region and to the bustling arts and culture district in nearby downtown Rochester.

The Vice President will oversee the implementation of the 2017-2020 Diversity and Inclusion Strategic Plan and will provide direction and oversight of diversity initiatives and programs including, but not limited to, faculty development; curricular initiatives; and recruitment and retention of faculty, staff, and students. These initiatives will advance an inclusive campus climate, foster the development of an expansive global perspective, and cultivate within the campus community the knowledge, understanding, and skills to respect diversity and equity, and effectively engage across differences. As a member of the President’s cabinet, the VPDI is vested with the authority to advocate, generate ideas, assess progress, and maintain accountability necessary to affect substantive, systemic progress and change.

The ideal candidate will be a proven diplomatic and collaborative leader with a broad and contemporary understanding of diversity and inclusion scholarship.  A Ph.D., Ed.D., or terminal degree is preferred. The VPDI will bring a proven track record of successfully influencing the creation of diversity initiatives and collaborating with a broad range of constituencies in their implementation. Building on the principles of social justice and civic engagement foundational to the rich history of the College, the position of Vice President offers an accomplished professional the opportunity to meaningfully engage the Nazareth community in dialogue, critical self-reflection, and transformative action to ensure that all students, faculty, and staff reach their fullest potential individually and collectively.
