PRESIDENT

Northern Kentucky University (NKU), a thriving metropolitan university located near Cincinnati, seeks a creative, courageous, mission-driven president to lead the institution into its next exciting chapter. As NKU approaches its 50th anniversary, it has a proud history as a student-first regional comprehensive that provides a transformative educational experience at a great value. The next president will build upon this well-deserved reputation and propel NKU to greater prominence. He or she will make NKU a model of the great 21st century comprehensive university while remaining true to its mission of providing a student-centered education that engages in impactful and creative work, empowers its graduates, and advances the region.

NKU is committed to regional stewardship and instilling a passion in its students that will lead them to fulfilling careers, community engagement, and meaningful lives. This commitment has been a driving force as the university has expanded academic offerings and advanced new opportunities for experiential learning. Due to decades of growth and expansion and its ability to compete for faculty and students from all over the nation and world, not to mention its recent athletic success, the spotlight on the university has never been brighter. A growing profile in the state capital and a maturing alumni base give NKU the ability to dream big.

The quality of NKU students and faculty has never been higher and concerted efforts to ensure student success are paying off. With a diverse array of colleges and centers spanning the humanities, arts, sciences, education, law, business, and informatics, NKU is poised to build successful transdisciplinary connections and further develop its burgeoning external partnerships. With the scheduled opening of a revolutionary Health Innovation Center next year that will be an anchor for transdisciplinary education and training and the new relationship with the University of Kentucky Medical School set to start in 2019, NKU is well positioned to serve as a leader in health innovation and a key contributor in improving population health in the region.

The next president must be able to articulate a clear vision for the university and foster a collegial and collaborative culture that capitalizes on the richness of the NKU community and furthers its commitment to academics, access, and inclusive excellence. Candidates should have innovative and entrepreneurial instincts, a track record of successful organizational leadership, the ability to build partnerships and cultivate financial support for the university and its programs from both public and private sources, and documented accomplishments in creating and supporting a climate of openness, understanding, and mutual respect. NKU desires, and deserves, a president who can effectively communicate its story, believes in its potential, and will continue to build on the institution’s outstanding reputation, thereby increasing its national profile.
