Dean, School of Public Health, University at Albany of the State University of New York

University at Albany School of Public Health seeks an exceptional accomplished leader to realize the vision of the school and to assume the oversight of its programs. University at Albany is nationally ranked and one of the three Research I institutions in the State University of New York system, which is comprised of 64 campuses. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean will assume responsibility for a school encompassing departments of Biomedical Sciences, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Environmental Health Sciences, and Health Policy, Management and Behavior. The new Dean will serve as a key academic leader at the University at Albany during its largest expansion of the last fifty years. The Dean is the School’s liaison with other divisions of the University at Albany, and University administration, and participates as a member of the Provost Dean’s Council in the overall leadership of the University.

 

The University at Albany School of Public Health has an established and unique partnership between the University at Albany and the New York State Department of Health, offering students an education based on cutting-edge research and practice-based experiences. Founded in 1985, the School of Public Health links these two large state institutions together with a shared vision: to provide leadership in analyzing current and emerging public health challenges and designing innovative solutions to address them. School of Public Health programs are located on the University’s Health Sciences Campus, in Rensselaer, NY, and in the DOH’s research and clinical laboratories at the Wadsworth Center in Albany, NY. The Health Sciences Campus is home to the largest concentration of health science-related entities in the New York State Capital Region, including the University’s School of Public Health and Cancer Research Center, with its Center for Functional Genomics. The new Dean will be a collaborative and team-oriented leader with a mature management skill-set and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in academic programming and research in the public health-related disciplines. Strong faculty relations experience, a visionary approach to planning, enthusiasm for the development of philanthropic and grant-based funding streams, and a focus on student, faculty, and staff success are musts. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required, as is a commitment and ability to work within a highly diverse organization. The new Dean will possess an earned doctorate, and will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of current issues in healthcare, public health, health science, and higher and graduate education, and a track record of successful competitive extramural research funding.
