Scientist for a position as an Associate

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine Abboud Cardiovascular Research Center at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics is recruiting a full-time scientist for a position as an Associate for a one-year appointment.  Candidates must have a PhD or equivalent and be authorized to work in the U.S.  

The successful candidate will have had hands on experience in the genotyping and maintenance of genetically modified mice. Specifically, the applicant must have experience with miR-34a knockout mice, eSIRT1 knockout mice, and different mouse models of diabetes, including the db/db, ob/ob, and STZ models. S/he must also be specifically adept at the following molecular biology and physiological techniques: q-RT-PCR, in situ hybridization for miR-34a, immunohistochemistry in mouse blood vessels, invasive and non-invasive BP measurements in live mice, vascular reactivity measurements of mouse aortas and mesenteric arteries, cloning, determination of autophagic flux using fluorescent markers,  determination of ER stress using molecular markers, immunoblotting, delivery of microRNA-34a mimics and antagonist in vivo into mice, amplification and purification of recombinant adenoviruses, and growth and transfection of endothelial cells in vitro with plasmids and adenoviruses. The applicant must be well published in high impact journals, and be capable of successfully and independently writing grant applications.
