Assistant Vice President for Student Success
New York University, one of the largest private universities in the United States and a leader in creating a new approach to education in the 21st century, seeks an Assistant Vice President (AVP) for Student Success to continue its trajectory of excellence and creativity in reach, scope and quality support. The University seeks a forward-thinking leader with the skill to develop student success plans and policies that are inventive, analytically rigorous and technically sophisticated, and continuously assessed and refined.
Reporting to the Vice President for Enrollment Management, the AVP for Student Success will provide subject matter expertise and be a consultative resource to University and Enrollment Management leaders on student success and retention initiatives. The new leader will possess sensitivity and commitment to issues of diversity, a desire to continuously grow and improve upon every metric in the enrollment spectrum, and the intercultural fluency to support and engage diverse students from around the globe. The AVP provides guidance and leadership to the Steering Committee for Student Success (a committee of leaders from Student Affairs, Academic Affairs and Enrollment Management), other senior leaders and school deans, and will inform factors impacting student retention and graduation behavior from academic progress, financial support, culture and fit. This position also has oversight of the state funded opportunity programs, Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP), Science Technology Entry Program (STEP) and Building Excellence in Science and Technology (BEST).
The successful candidate will have a broad understanding of academic and student support, research, programming and administrative functions as well as an understanding of the best practices regarding campus wide student success initiatives. An analytical understanding of the factors affecting student retention, satisfaction and graduation rates and the ability to use that analysis to create practical programming and process improvements are essential to success in this role. A demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment, strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively to a wide range of audiences including students and their families, faculty, advisors and other administrators are essential.
Ten or more years of progressively responsible leadership and management experience in administering student services, enrollment management, academic support and/or student activities is required. A master’s degree is required; a doctoral degree in social or behavioral science, education research or management, public policy or related field is advantageous.
Inquiries, nominations and applications are invited. Review of applications will begin immediately, and will continue until the position is filled. Candidates should provide a resume and a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in the Leadership Profile available at www.wittkieffer.com. These materials, in two separate attachments, should be sent electronically via e-mail to New York University’s consultants, Jennifer Desjarlais and Kim Brettschneider at NYU-AVPStudentSuccess@wittkieffer.com.
