The Access Services Librarian is responsible for managing daily operations of the circulation, reserves, and stacks maintenance areas of the library. The position provides library instruction and reference services, manages the library’s archive, and provides copyright information and assistance to the college community.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage circulation, reserves, stacks maintenance, and shelving functions.
  • Supervise, train, coach, schedule, and evaluate staff assigned to access services, and work at the desk as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the systems librarian to maintain and update circulation and reserves parameters, policies, and reports.
  • Resolve complex patron disputes related to circulation and reserves transactions.
  • Collaborate with the accounts receivables office to place delinquent library accounts into collections and monitor outstanding cases.
  • Provide copyright information to college faculty, staff, and students.
  • Manage the library’s archives
  • Teach library instruction sessions and provide reference services to library patrons. Support online learners within the learning management system environment.
  • Participate in collection development.
  • Collaborate with others in the library and elsewhere at the college to enhance library services.
  • Represent the library on college committees and with library and community organizations.
  • Maintain statistics to facilitate making data driven decisions.

  • Participate in a program of professional development to maintain currency of job knowledge and increase job skills.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Library.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution required.
  • Minimum of three years of library experience, including experience with circulation, reference, and library instruction.
  • Minimum of one year of supervisory experience required.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills required that will lead to forming collaborative and supportive relationships in support of student success, student engagement, and equity initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially as a team member in a diverse and changing environment required, including experience in working with a diverse student body and/or library patrons who may be underprepared for academic work, returning to college as adults, or first generation college students.
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative and flexible required.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service and the philosophy of a community college required.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible shifts to meet the needs of the library required. One evening per week required.
  • Ability to work tactfully and effectively with a diverse patron base, including students, staff, faculty, and community patrons.
  • Experience with Microsoft office and current library technology required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of copyright and intellectual property preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of archives preferred.
