Dean, College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NCAT) invites nominations and applications for the founding Dean of the newly created College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences. 


The Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences is the chief academic and administrative officer for the College. The Dean provides visioning in support of University’s strategic plan. In addition to leading the development and administration of the College’s academic programs, the Dean will be responsible for managing and allocating financial resources; encouraging excellent teaching, scholarship and research; supporting faculty and staff development; and, developing strong relationships with other Colleges and the external community. The Dean reports to the Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. 


The founding Dean will have a unique opportunity to work with colleagues and stakeholders to develop and align the mission and vision of the College with the mission and vision of the University. It is anticipated the new college will feature strong, innovative interdisciplinary thinking, teaching, and research in both traditional and emerging disciplines.  


The College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences houses the Departments of English, History, Journalism and Mass Communication, Liberal Studies, Political Science and Criminal Justice, and Visual and Performing Arts.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in a discipline within the College and a record of teaching, research/scholarship/ creative activity, and professional accomplishment to qualify for appointment at the rank of professor with tenure. In addition, the successful candidate will have demonstrated budgeting, public relations, development and personnel management experience.
