Associate or Assistant Vice President for Research Administration

 

Temple University invites applications for the position of Associate or Assistant Vice President for Research Administration.  Reporting to the Vice President for Research, this position is a senior level position in the Office of Research Administration responsible for overseeing Temple’s portfolio of funded research. The Associate or Assistant Vice President will oversee, evaluate and integrate the pre-and post award aspects of grant getting by directly managing the offices of Grants Management, Research Accounting Services, and the administrative staff of Temple’s Electronic Research Administration. This position is also responsible for monitoring federal and state regulatory developments and changes to University policies to ensure that the university is meeting the requirements of funding agencies and partners.

 

Temple University's history begins in 1884, when a young working man asked Russell Conwell if he could tutor him at night. A well-known Philadelphia minister, Conwell quickly said yes. It wasn't long before he was teaching several dozen students—working people who could only attend class at night but had a strong desire to make something of themselves. The fledgling college continued to grow, adding programs and students throughout the following decades. Today, Temple's 16 schools and colleges, nine campuses, hundreds of degree programs and more than 38,297 students combine to create one of the nation's most comprehensive and diverse public research and learning environments. In 2016, Temple rose from the “high research activity,” or R2, category to “highest research activity,” or R1, placing it among the top four percent of all four-year institutions in the nation.

 

The ideal candidate will meet minimum qualifications, which include having the ability to manage a diverse staff both in person and on other campuses; having the ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects; demonstrated collaborative and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders; demonstrated ability to comprehend complex scientific issues, and translate specialized and/or technical jargon suitable for the general public. The successful candidate will have ten or more years in the research administration field showing career progression and leadership in working in a university community and an advanced degree in a related field.
