Business Manager, Seismology

Job Description: The Nevada Seismological Laboratory (NSL) at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) seeks applications for a Business and Grants Manager position. The Nevada Seismological Laboratory is a research and public service state agency housed within the University of Nevada, Reno. NSL serves as the state agency responsible for earthquake monitoring and seismological research, with a growing emphasis on real-time multi-hazard monitoring and detection that includes earthquake early warning and operation of the ALERTWildfire camera network. The NSL Business and Grants Manager will assist the Director and Associate Director in overseeing and managing major components of the NSL, ensure proper assignment of faculty and staff to projects and prepare comprehensive reports with statistical analysis and narratives. The Business and Grants Manager is responsible for administering the full range of fiscal operations to include budgeting and fiscal management for seismology accounts including State, extramural, self-supporting, and foundation funds. The position will manage the department’s grant budgeting and compliance to ensure that expenditures align with the scope of work and period of performance for the grant/contracts. The ideal candidate provides financial consultation, guidance, and training to faculty and staff to ensure compliance with university policies.

In addition to fiscal responsibilities, the Business and Grants Manager will manage the administrative and human resources operations of NSL, including supervision of departmental classified office staff and coordination of grant pre and post-award activities. The position serves as a public and university point of contact for department staff, agency officials, and other stakeholders. The Business Manager will act as part of the NSL incident response team to ensure NSL’s statewide services are available when critical incidents such as earthquakes occur and require action.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and two (2) years OR Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related work experience. 

Related Experience: Budgeting, accounting, and human resources experience; experience managing high-level business operations; supervisory experience or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications
rant and contract management experience
Experience using the Workday enterprise management system
Experience prioritizing work using a ticketing and project management system
