Dean, Macaulay Honors College

SEARCH FOR THE DEAN

MACAULAY HONORS COLLEGE

The City University of New York (CUNY) seeks an exceptional leader to serve as the next dean of the William E. Macaulay Honors College at CUNY (Macaulay). CUNY is the largest urban public university in the nation, comprising 25 colleges located across New York City’s five boroughs. Founded in 1847 as the country’s first free public institution of higher education, CUNY is committed to providing a first-rate education to all students, regardless of means or background.

Macaulay is a highly selective college that provides New York’s most promising students with the financial and academic support to realize their leadership potential and graduate debt-free. New York State residents attend tuition free. Macaulay was inaugurated in the fall of 2001 and is now one of the top-ranked public honors colleges in the United States. Macaulay operates as a consortial model, with students enrolling as undergraduates in one of eight CUNY colleges while engaging in unique academic and extracurricular opportunities exclusive to the Macaulay community. These are exceptional, highly motivated students who might not have the same success without the opportunities provided by this college. The dean, functioning much like the president of a stand-alone college within CUNY, will have the opportunity to work within an ecosystem of excellence. The dean will lead and partner with world-class faculty and staff to provide a quintessential New York City learning experience for top achieving students.

Macaulay is a successful college with great potential for an ambitious dean to have significant impact in positively transforming lives. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic, experienced leader to bolster the strengths Macaulay built in its first 20 years and lead the school into its next stage of excellence and innovation. The successful candidate will be a superb relationship builder, a great storyteller, a thoughtful innovator, a skilled fundraiser, and a student-centric administrator committed to academic excellence and diversity, equity, and inclusion. The dean will have a strong track record of working across institutions and constituencies. Experience at a complex, public institution and experience with honors education is preferred.
