The Department of Mechanical Engineering within Penn State's College of Engineering is seeking a highly qualified individual to support the Associate Department Head for Undergraduate Programs in all non-curricular matters and oversee day-to-day interactions with undergraduate students. The Department of Mechanical Engineering is one the largest and most successful in the nation.

The successful candidate should exhibit expertise in mechanical engineering undergraduate education, administration, and student recruiting. The Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) should be able to effectively communicate the program's advantages and current curriculum requirements to potential and current students during individual meetings and student recruiting presentations. The successful candidate will have earned a master's degree or PhD in mechanical engineering (or related field) and preferably have at least 3 years of teaching experience in mechanical engineering. The responsibilities include recruiting high school students, leading new student orientations, serving as the departmental point of contact for academic integrity/ethics questions, reviewing transfer requests and course equivalencies, and growing student participation in co-op and global programs. The DUS will coordinate with Commonwealth Campuses on courses and programs and work with Commonwealth Campus transfer students. The DUS will represent the department on various college level committees (e.g., ABET and advising). The DUS may teach ME courses in support of the departmental teaching mission. The candidate should have superior communication skills and have demonstrated experience in engaging faculty, non-traditional students, professionals, and resident engineering students in curricular and co-curricular activities. Experience in undergraduate program management and education is preferred.

The position is a non-tenure-line academic track, limited term appointment. Salary and academic title will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
