Dean of Undergraduate Education, Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Science
The University of Southern California (USC) is seeking a College Dean of Undergraduate Education for the Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Science. The College Dean will be an innovative and creative leader and a powerful champion for undergraduate education in the largest, oldest, and most academically diverse School at USC.
Founded in 1880 in Los Angeles, USC was established to provide the intellectual capital and leadership that is foundational in cultivating a world-class city. USC's academic excellence, status, and reputation have increased remarkably over the past three decades, securing its position among the nation's leading research universities. A member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), USC brings together world class research and interdisciplinary educational offerings informed by a global perspective with the dynamism offered by one of the largest and most diverse metropolitan regions in the U.S.
Today, USC serves 44,000 students enrolled across 21 schools and academic units, and boasts a distinguished faculty of 4,000 innovative scholars, researchers, teachers, and mentors. The campus prides itself on its student diversity, enrolling more underrepresented minority students than any other private institution in the AAU and the most underrepresented minority graduate students nationwide. The Campaign for USC, launched in 2011, will reach its $6 billion goal nearly 18 months before anticipated, securing its place among the most successful campaigns in higher education. More than 10,500 donors have supported endowed scholarships, underpinning the university's commitment to attract top students and to meet the financial needs of undergraduates through scholarships and other types of financial aid.
The inaugural College Dean will be responsible for overseeing, shaping, and working to define the future of the undergraduate experience within Dornsife. S/he has the unique opportunity to build pioneering academic and professional initiatives that prepare Dornsife undergraduates to lead successful, fulfilling lives in an increasingly changing world and leave a lasting legacy on the College, University, and the field of undergraduate education.
To meet these goals, the College Dean will address several opportunities and challenges:
- Forge a bold new vision for undergraduate education at Dornsife
- Champion innovative new programs for undergraduate research, internships, and beyond
- Develop infrastructure for assessment to enable data-driven decision-making
- Provide inspirational leadership for a complex administrative unit
- Serve as the face for undergraduate education at Dornsife across USC and externally
