Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) is the global standard for academic and institutional business research. We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented, self-motivated Data Manager to be part of the Data Team. Part supervisor and part project manager, help incredible people do incredible things. Lead a team of data engineers working on a Petabyte of data, using it for everything from full text search to natural language processing to fast retrieval for development of research algorithms.

Responsibilities include:
  • Lead a team of data engineers performing ETL procedures on a wide variety of data formats, from multiple data vendor partners. Coordinate multiple projects while meeting deadlines including small projects such a schema changes and larger projects such as onboarding a new database.
  • Take responsibility for the timely updating of databases created internally by communicating with the WRDS Research Team and 3rd party databases by working with vendor partners.
  • Oversee data quality through use of validation routines and good coding practices such as code reviews and use of version control.
  • Improve workflows through automation and efficiency to support an ever-increasing number of databases and data update frequency while maintaining quality.
  • Collaborate with other teams at WRDS to coordinate resources for data-related projects.
  • Explore, learn, implement, and support new technologies as needed to accomplish data team goals
  • Provide first/second tier data and technical support to internal and external WRDS users


QUALIFICATIONS:

Required :

BA/BS in Computer Science, Economics, Statistics, Finance, Mathematics, or another closely related discipline with 5-7 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Technical project management and team leadership abilities are crucial. Must be able to manage multiple priorities and evaluate the work of team members. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Positive outlook and ability to work well in groups. Strong diagnostic and problem solving skills are essential.

Preferred :

A preferred candidate will also have application development experience, knowledge of database design, and several of the following skills: Python, R, SAS, Git, PostgreSQL experience, use of a Unix operating system, knowledge of big data issues, finance and/or financial databases, research methods, and web development.
