The University of Minnesota Duluth seeks an experienced, collaborative, and dynamic leader to serve as the next Chancellor.

The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is a comprehensive regional university set on the beautiful shores of Lake Superior. As a sea-grant and land-grant university that acknowledges its location on the traditional, ancestral, and contemporary lands of Indigenous people, UMD achieves its mission through vibrant and high-quality academic and co-curricular programs; impactful research, scholarship, and creative activities. Undergraduate students can choose from 16 bachelor’s degrees in 89 majors and 77 minors as well as seven certificates across four different colleges. UMD also offers graduate programs in 25 fields, 13 minors, and three certificates. 

UMD participates in two systemwide PhD programs and contributes to the delivery of a number of U of M Twin Cities-based PhD programs. The University of Minnesota Medical School, Duluth campus and the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy, Duluth both have programs located on the UMD campus. 

UMD consistently ranks among the top Midwestern, regional universities in U.S. News and World Report’s “America’s Best Colleges” issue. Providing an alternative to both large research universities and small liberal arts colleges, UMD attracts students looking for a personalized learning experience on a medium-sized campus of a major university.

Reporting to the President of the University of Minnesota, the Chancellor will lead the University of Minnesota Duluth in advancing its contributions to fulfilling the mission of the University of Minnesota.

In addition, the Chancellor will guide UMD in its campus commitments to excellence in teaching and scholarship, student centeredness, and engaged citizenship. The Chancellor will provide strong leadership in achieving current goals and establishing new and ambitious ones to propel the University forward. Strong candidates will have a demonstrated record of leadership as an executive officer and be able to articulate a vision to diverse audiences. A deep knowledge and understanding of an academic mission is strongly preferred. Candidates should demonstrate strategic thinking, possess outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, and be collaborative and creative.
