The University of Massachusetts Amherst has an opening for a Senior Programmer and is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join its Development team. Under the supervision of the Director of Donor Information Systems, the Senior Programmer analyzes business needs and fulfills requests for Alumni and Donor information from all departments across campus, consults with end users, develops technical specifications, and designs custom programming and report solutions using business intelligence design tools, relational database programming and other software. The Senior Programmer serves as a primary technical resource in the use of the Alumni and Donor database, reporting and application features, performs the customization of reports, system upgrades and new application/database configurations. This position manages the security of report access for all Alumni and Donor database users, provides support for individual and group trainings for the user community, manages, coordinates and contributes to the policies and procedures of Information and Donor Services. In addition, the Senior Programmer provides research, analysis and data integration from third party vendors as project leader and is the liaison between Information and Donor Services staff and the Alumni and Donor database users to improve data integrity, reporting and technical services.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field; 4 years’ experience in a higher education environment or equivalent experience in a private sector specialty will be considered; Experience with current programming methodologies, programming tools, relational databases, SQL and SQL related programming languages. Ability to communicate clearly, in both written and oral form, relatively technical information to non-expert users. Ability to work with many individuals at varying administrative levels, both inside and outside of the University, manage multiple projects, coordinate work for the team, meet deadlines, work independently and learn new technologies and software quickly.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a higher education environment. Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools such as Crystal Reports, Tableau and Qlik. Experience with Windows operating systems, Excel, Oracle databases and HTML. Experience with database development tools such as PL/SQL Developer or Toad. Experience with fundraising software and advancement processes.

PROFESSIONAL STAFF SALARY ADMINISTRATION PROGRAM POSITION LEVEL 27.

SALARY RANGE ASSOCIATED WITH POSITION LEVEL 28.
