Job Description Summary
The IT Technical Director for Instructional and Events Operations manages the teams that provide direct and supporting assistance to over 30,000 academic events and 20,000 special events annually across the Wharton complex, both in-person and virtual.

Job Description

The IT Technical Director manages the Classroom Support team, the Special Events Support team, and the Technical Scheduling team. These teams work together to coordinate and provide guidance for scheduling activities in the Wharton spaces, training for faculty, staff, and students on installed AV equipment and instructional/events tools and platforms, and guidance for best practices for virtual event delivery. The IT Technical Director manages a staff of full-time employees, as well temporary staff and 3rd party resources contracted for large engagements and extra capacity.

The IT Technical Director for Instructional and Events Operations works with other IT colleagues, as well as Leadership across The School and University including the Office of the Dean, Office of the President, and individual program offices to design and execute the major technical aspects of unique high-profile events, such as board meetings, graduations, and critical alumni events. The IT Technical Director works closely with Wharton Operations to coordinate efforts and provide world class technology within the Wharton complex spaces. The IT Technical Director also works with Wharton Computing peers in classroom design, video production, communication, faculty support, instructional support and design, and technology support to provide highly available services, as well as the road map for future improvements to products, workflows, and standard operating procedures.

The IT Technical Director will set and manage a team schedule to support events that typically run on Wharton's campus from 7:00am - 7:00pm Monday through Saturday. They will be required to be on call, carry a school-provided cell phone, and occasionally be available for non-normal business hour support requests. Domestic and international travel may be required to support events in New York, San Francisco, Beijing, and other locations around the world.

Qualifications

The preferred candidate for this position will have a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience managing IT Support teams. S/he will be able to demonstrate successes providing the highest possible quality of end-user support and service, preferably in higher education. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. The ability to work collaboratively and effectively with peers is required.

S/he must possess the ability to address, prioritize, and resolve customer services requests with a professional, outcome-focused approach and attitude to maximize client satisfaction. S/he must demonstrate an ability to exercise good judgment, tact, confidentiality, and diplomacy in all interactions. Effective communications skills, excellent interpersonal skills, decisive problem solving and decision making, the ability to work independently as well as part of a team, a track record of forming and managing relationships, and the aptitude to manage a complex workload are all required. Regular interaction with internal and external persons of significant importance and influence is required.

The selected candidate for this position must have demonstrated experience aligning technology to meet projects goals, requirements, and organizational priorities. A proven history of managing complex technology infrastructure related to client technologies, enterprise technologies, classroom technologies, and/or Audio/Visual tech is required. A solid understanding of the latest trends in Educational Technology is strongly desired.

The incumbent for this position is required to be on call, carry a school-provided cell phone, and occasionally be available for emergency and non-normal business hour support requests. This team may be asked to support events in New York, San Francisco, Beijing, and other locations around the world. Domestic and International travel may occasionally be required. This team regularly supports events on Wharton's Campus from 7 am - 7 pm Monday through Saturday.
