POSITION TITLE: : Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Gender Equity/Foundations of Social Justice Education

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: The Undergraduate Studies in Education Department offers undergraduate degree majors in Child and Adolescent Development and Deaf Studies, as well as minors in Counseling and Teaching, Equity, and Engagement. The Graduate and Professional Studies Department offers Master's degrees in Education with emphases in Behavioral Science Gender Equity Studies, Education, Equity, and Social Justice, as well as a host of other programs that focus on issues of antiracism, diversity, and social justice. The faculty are dedicated to developing scholars and practitioners who recognize that we live and work in diverse linguistic, racial, gender, economic, and religious institutions, and communities, and understand the need to work for social justice. The departments are committed to antiracism, social justice, and intersectional frameworks in teaching, research, and service

POSITION DETAILS: The College of Education invites applicants for the Gender Equity/Foundations of Social Justice tenure-track position to begin in August 2022, at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is housed in the Undergraduate Studies in Education Department, but the candidate will also teach in the Graduate and Professional Studies Department. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a rigorous program of scholarly work related to gender equity and/or foundations of social justice education; engage in undergraduate and graduate-level teaching, advising, and curriculum development/assessment; serve on master's thesis committees; work collegially with other faculty; and participate in university and community engagement.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the program, department, college, and university.

  • Teach daytime or evening undergraduate courses depending on faculty interest/expertise and branch needs in one or more of the following areas: First Year Seminar, Critical Thinking/Perspectives, Multicultural Education, or Gender Equity.

  • Teach evening graduate courses depending on faculty interest/expertise and branch needs in one or more of the following areas: Gender Equity or Foundations of Social Justice Education.

  • Engage in scholarly activities; develop and sustain an active research agenda leading to peer-reviewed publications.

  • Develop and coordinate undergraduate and graduate programs, including the promotion, marketing, and recruitment for the Masters of Education, Behavioral Science Gender Equity Studies Program.

  • Direct, advise, and chair master's thesis projects.

  • Mentor and advise undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Participate in service to the program, department, university, and community.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned doctorate in Education or closely related field. ABD applicants will be considered. If ABD, all requirements for the doctoral degree must be completed by August 2022.

  • Evidence of scholarly expertise in one or more of the following areas: Gender Equity, Intersectional Feminism, Foundations of Social Justice Education, Antiracist Education, Sociology of Education.

  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching for social justice and educational equity, emphasizing intersectionality of multiple positionalities that include, but are not limited to, race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, and ability.

  • Ability to teach and mentor a diverse student population.

  • A commitment to antiracism, diversity, and equity.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Successful university-level undergraduate and graduate teaching experience at a diverse college or university setting.

  • Demonstrated commitment to mentoring and working effectively with first-generation college and underrepresented undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Demonstrated commitment to integrating the values of equity, diversity, and antiracism in scholarly agenda.

  • Evidence of scholarly engagement and potential as demonstrated through conference presentations, publications, and/or grant development.

  • Experience with program and/or curriculum development in the undergraduate and/or in the graduate level.

  • Experience coordinating collaborative education programs.

  • Experience in community responsive service with diverse communities.
