This position will provide research, logistical and administrative assistance to the research operations of the Communication Neuroscience Lab and its director, Emily Falk (Professor of Communication, Psychology, Marketing, and OID; incoming Associate Dean for Research at the Annenberg School of Communication).

Lab Environment:

The Communication Neuroscience Laboratory (CN Lab) at The Annenberg School for Communication is looking for a Lab Manager to join a welcoming group of researchers. Our lab studies what makes people happy and healthy, and how communication can help people make better decisions. Research in the lab connects neuroscience measures to real-world outcomes, with a focus on health and well-being for individuals and society (e.g., smoking, exercise, alcohol, social connection, mood, climate change, inequality).

This position is grant funded. Position continuation is contingent upon continued receipt of grant funds.

Principal duties will be to work on:
  • Data collection (e.g., screen potential study participants for eligibility by phone, conduct in-person research appointments, aid online data collection)
  • Prepare reports and documentation for research projects (e.g., funding reports, annual reports, IRB documentation): keep track of deadlines, form checklists, and send reminders; collect progress updates from lab members and collaborators and curate lab-wide information; edit and polish documents, including citation formatting.
  • Research project planning: Plan and aid ongoing internal and external team meetings, events, and retreats; maintain calendars and listservs; perform updates to research project websites and research databases; develop and maintain lab handbook; onboard and orient new lab members; manage productivity and communication applications; manage inventory of research supplies; establish relationships and maintain open communication withpotential and current collaborators
  • Provide research assistance for manuscript preparation (e.g., literature review, citation formatting, proofreading);
  • Provide research administrative assistance to CNL Director, including: calendar management; coordination of recommendation letters; arranging research travel; preparing research presentations; other help as needed.


Qualifications:
  • A B.S. or B.A., with background in psychology, neuroscience, computer science, marketing, statistics, mathematics, public health, communication studies, or a related field plus at least one year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required (e.g., previous lab/research assistant/administrative experience).
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills, time management, and attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team, and on multiple tasks and projects at the same time
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Suite
  • Willingness to learn new online tools and software for scheduling, productivity, management, social media, and research (e.g., RedCap).


Preferred:
  • Past administrative and/or research experience in a college, university or other research-intensive setting
  • Previous experience working with IRB
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office and Google Suites
  • Proficiency with Slack,Trello, RedCap, and/or Notion
  • Willingness to learn tools for graphic design
  • Experience with Penn purchasing, administrative, and travel policies
  • Demonstrated proactive problem-solving (e.g., developing systems and solutions to handle logistical challenges)
  • Interest in psychology, neuroscience, public health, communication studies, journalism, and/or decision sciences
