Job Description

The University of Nevada, Reno invites candidates for the position of Database Administrator/Senior Database Administrator in Enterprise Data Management, a service unit of the Office of Information Technology. Under the general supervision of the Director of Enterprise Data Management, the Database Administrator positions are responsible for the overall support of the enterprise database systems, providing guidance to the users of the system, including technical and non-technical while ensuring database availability and continuity.

The Database Administrator is responsible for performing the installation, configuration, and maintenance of database management systems, on a variety of operating systems. This position creates, optimizes, and administers database environments while complying with security standards and polices. Follows best practices in data security, backups, and continuity. Monitors database systems to anticipate and prevent potential disruption to services and investigates, researches, and resolves performance issues and/or errors encountered. Works with technical staff to solve hardware, operating system, and performance issues. In addition, provides support and guidance to the users of the system and ensures database operations are meeting business needs.

The Senior Database Administrator in addition to the duties listed above, holds general responsibility and oversight over all enterprise database systems ensuring maximum security, availability and performance. This position develops and maintains procedures and policies in database administration, continuity, and security. Monitors and improves database performance, evaluates data partitioning and indexing where performance gains can be achieved. In addition, provides oversight and direction to lower-level database administrators and acts as a liaison with the campus community and across OIT units.

Required Qualifications

Database Administrator

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two (2) years of related work experience OR a Master's degree and one (1) years of related work experience.
Related Experience: Experience in administering and supporting a relational database environment. Experience with database query languages, scripting, and user management.

Senior Database Administrator

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and four (4) years of related work experience OR a Master's degree and two (2) years of related work experience.
Related Experience: Experience in administering and supporting an enterprise level relational database environment. Experience with advanced database query languages and scripting.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with the latest versions of Oracle and SQL Server Relational Database Management Systems.

Experience with database environments running on UNIX operating systems.

Demonstrated skills and experience in SQL, PL/SQL, data analysis, troubleshooting, and problem resolution related to database administration.

Strong skills in attention to detail, researching, analyzing, and resolving issues.

Experience in a higher education environment, supporting a Student Information System, and providing customer service to technical and non-technical staff.

Schedule or Travel Requirements
Position often requires work outside of standard business hours.
Participation in trainings and/or conference attendance.

Database Administrator - Administrative Faculty Grade B

Senior Database Administrator - Administrative Faculty Grade C
