Dean, School of Business

La Salle University seeks applications and nominations for the Dean, School of Business.  Located in Philadelphia, La Salle is a Catholic, Lasallian university in the tradition of the Brothers of the Christian Schools.  With over 5,100 undergraduate and graduate students, La Salle has effectively blended its identity as an urban comprehensive Catholic university with its Lasallian mission to create an inclusive campus community. One of three schools at the university, the AACSB-accredited School of Business has five departments, 37 full-time faculty, 930 undergraduate and 260 graduate students. The School’s beautiful new building, Founders’ Hall, opened in January 2016.

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean is the chief executive and administrative officer of the School. The Dean provides active leadership in the promotion, direction, and support of educational and research activities of the School, in the maintenance of a high level of morale among the faculty and staff, and in the encouragement of the spirit of learning among the students. The Dean provides representation and visibility in the community and leadership in identifying and hosting relevant community leaders and activities on campus. The Dean has general administrative responsibility for the School, including its compliance with accreditation standards, community outreach, fundraising, marketing and enrollment, interdisciplinary initiatives, global outreach, and the effective management of its administrative and financial affairs. The Dean consults with the faculty in designing the School’s strategic plan and sets the tone for the School of Business encouraging excellence, recognizing achievement, and supporting appointments and promotions based on merit.  The Dean is charged to increase scholarship, grow entrepreneurial activity, create opportunities for students, and foster an innovative and collaborative spirit within the School and across the University.

The successful candidate will ideally come from a background of substantive leadership within a leading business school, but candidates with exceptional experience as successful leaders within enterprises that involve multiple stakeholders will be considered.  She or he must demonstrate evidence of excellent financial and human resource management skills; collaborative skills in working with a strong management team, department heads and an innovative energetic faculty; and a track record showing commitment to diversity and building diverse leadership teams. A strong level of engagement with business constituents is essential. An MBA, JD, or other relevant graduate degree is required; a Ph.D. or equivalent in business or a business-related field is strongly preferred.

Other strongly preferred criteria include: scholarly and/or professional accomplishments corresponding to degree and background; at least five years of demonstrated leadership and administrative experience; entrepreneurial and innovative skills; a proven track record in fundraising and external relations; and ability to work within a diverse and multicultural environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate evidence of ability to provide a vision and formulate a new strategic plan; a record of fostering excellence in teaching, scholarship and service; and a commitment to strengthening the role of teaching across the school, actively supporting and encouraging faculty, promoting faculty and student success, and appreciating assessment and learning outcomes.
