Description: Full time lecturer position to teach: a) lower division undergraduate lecture/laboratory chemistry courses to majors and non-majors and b) upper division lecture/laboratory courses depending on area of expertise. This is a 1 year appointment with the possibility for renewal based on performance, course demand, and budget.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in chemistry or a closely related discipline is required. ABD may be considered if dissertation can be completed within the first year of the appointment. Must be committed to quality undergraduate education.

Preferred Qualifications: Expertise in physical chemistry is strongly preferred, although all areas will be considered. University teaching experience strongly desired, especially in area of expertise.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Department Information:
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry currently consists of seven tenure track faculty, five full time lecturers and over 200 active majors. The department offers the ACS-approved BS degree in Chemistry, BS in Biochemistry as well as concentrations in Food Chemistry, Management and Marketing, and Occupational Safety and Health Management. The department has strong involvement in general education and service courses for related majors.

General Information:
California State University, Bakersfield, founded in 1970, is one of twenty-three campuses of the CSU System and currently has an enrollment of 7,000 students. The University services a socially and ethnically diverse population of 600,000 in an area of 10,000 square miles. The city of Bakersfield (population over 300,000) is located in the southern San Joaquin Valley and has a much lower cost of living than coastal California. Los Angeles, the Pacific Ocean, Mojave Desert, and Sierra Nevada Mountains are all within a two-hour drive from campus.
