FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The CUNY School of Medicine (CSOM) at The City College of New York (CCNY), is the only medical school in the City University of New York system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CSOM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, CSOM offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Our mission is 1) to provide access to medical education to talented youth from social, ethnic and racial backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities with a special emphasis on primary care and 2) to perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine.

The Department of Molecular, Cellular and Biomedical Sciences (MCBS) of the CSOM invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Medical Professor level in Physiology or Pharmacology. The department is formed by a vibrant community of faculty investigating fundamental aspects of human disease in the areas of neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology, biochemistry, immunology, and cell biology. Our faculty teaches basic science courses to medical students and also train PhD students from the CUNY Graduate Center. We seek individuals with research interests that will complement and/or expand our existing strengths (https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/csom/physpharmandneurofacultyandstaff) as well as individuals that will contribute to the school’s diversity and inclusion goals (https://www.ccny.cuny.edu/csom/deans-initiative).

Successful candidates will be provided with state-funded positions, competitive start-up packages, ample laboratory space, access to core facilities, and strong professional and career mentoring.

Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain externally funded research programs. In addition, these individuals will be expected to teach in their area of expertise and provide service to the department and the school. Experience in teaching medical basic science courses or the willingness to develop such skills is required. Successful candidates will also have experience and a demonstrated commitment to building an equitable and diverse scholarly and learning environment.

These positions represent excellent ground floor opportunities to contribute to the development and growth of a newly expanding mission-based medical school and to shape the direction of academic initiatives in biomedical research by building upon a program with a long and rich history of recruiting underrepresented populations into medicine, increasing medical services in underserved areas, and increasing the availability of primary care physicians.
