Associate / Full Professor – Medicine by Design Senior Chair in Immunobioengineering (1700044)

The Institute of Biomaterials & Biomedical Engineering (http://www.ibbme.utoronto.ca) in the University of Toronto invites applications for full-time tenure-stream appointment in the research areas of immunobioengineering and immunology related to stem cell biology, regenerative medicine, heart disease, and cell and organ transplantation. Novel approaches to engineer immune responses for regenerative medicine applications are of particular interest. The appointment will be at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The expected start date is July 1, 2017.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate outstanding research, excellence in teaching and experience teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses in any of the subjects noted above. Candidates will be closely associated with Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research (TRCHR) (see below) and / or the Canada First Research Excellence Fund (CFREF) Medicine by Design Program, and considered for appointment in appropriate partner departments at UofT, which may include Immunology, Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, Cell and Systems Biology, and others within the Faculties of Applied Science and Engineering, Medicine, Arts and Science, and the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network. Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in a relevant area.

Medicine by Design (http://www.mbd.utoronto.ca) is a newly established program that harnesses the exceptional expertise at the University of Toronto and its affiliated hospitals at the convergence of physical and life sciences, engineering, mathematics and medicine to undertake transformative research in regenerative medicine and cell therapy. Medicine by Design is made possible thanks in part to a $114-million grant from the CFREF. Engineering the immune system to enable cell, tissue and organ transplantation, to enhance regeneration and repair, and/or novel ways of generating and manipulating stem cell derived immune cells, are amongst the priority areas of Medicine by Design.
