THE SEARCH

Bowling Green State University (BGSU), a doctoral/high-research public university in northwest Ohio, seeks an innovative, collaborative, and forward-thinking leader to serve as the Vice Provost and Dean of Graduate and Professional Programs (Vice Provost/Dean). BGSU is committed to further raising the stature of graduate education with the creation of a combined vice provost and dean position. This is a unique opportunity for the Vice Provost/Dean to lead strategic growth of graduate and professional education at BGSU. The Vice Provost/Dean will work with the University’s academic colleges and administrative departments to build upon a solid foundation of graduate and professional programming while developing strategic programming to meet the needs of an increasingly diverse student population.

The University offers 57 master’s, 19 doctoral, and dozens of certificate programs across a wide range of disciplines. Using a data-informed approach, the Vice Provost/Dean will work in partnership with the Provost, academic deans and associate deans, faculty, staff, graduate students, and the Vice President for Research and Economic Engagement to refine existing programs and develop strategic new programs that meet student and employer demand.

BGSU embraces its role as a public university, acting in the public interest to create public good, and intentionally preparing students for their lives after graduation. Through excellence in teaching, research, and outreach, BGSU builds a collaborative, diverse, and inclusive community where creative ideas, new knowledge, and entrepreneurial achievements benefit others in the region, the state of Ohio, the nation, and the world. BGSU is emerging from the global pandemic in a strong position, with student enrollment poised to exceed pre-pandemic levels, and the University’s leadership continues to move BGSU forward with a commitment to serve both traditional and post-traditional students.

BGSU seeks candidates with the ability to: create a bold vision for the future of graduate and professional education; cultivate and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across campus; further develop BGSU’s sustainable, high-quality roster of graduate programs; develop resources that will deepen support for graduate education; continue to build and strengthen BGSU’s diverse and inclusive graduate community; and enhance graduate student success and well-being. The successful candidate will have an earned Ph.D. or terminal degree along with credentials and achievements that merit appointment as a tenured full professor at BGSU; the demonstrated ability to engage and inspire faculty, staff, students, the BGSU community at large, and external constituents around a vision for graduate and professional education; possess exceptional interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; and the ability to effectively lead and work collaboratively with diverse constituencies.
