Overview:

Quinnipiac University's College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for an Assistant Dean for Advising and Student Services. The Assistant Dean works closely with the College dean, associate deans, director of career development, and department chairs in the College of Arts and Sciences and will report to the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Assistant Dean oversees and manages the College's advising plan and strategy, and coordinates recruitment and orientation events for the prospective students.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers undergraduate majors in behavioral neuroscience, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, criminal justice, data science, economics, English, environmental science, game design and development, gerontology, history, independent majors, interdisciplinary studies, law in society, mathematics, philosophy, political science, psychology, sociology, Spanish language and literature, sustainability and public policy, and theater. In addition, the College of Arts and Sciences offers 31 undergraduate minors, an MS in Molecular and Cell Biology and the additional accelerated undergraduate/graduate programs: 3+1 and 4+1 BS/MS programs in Molecular and Cell Biology, 3+3 BA or BS/JD degree, 3+1 BA in Data Science/MS or MA in Communications, 3+1 BS in Data Science/MBA, 3+1 BS in Economics/MS in Accounting, Business Analytics, or Journalism or MBA, 3+1 BA in Theater/MBA or MA in Communications, and 3+2 BA or BS/MSW. Students can also complete a 5-year BA/BS and MA in Teaching in the following secondary education fields: Biology, English, History, Math and Spanish.

Responsibilities:

Develop strategies to provide meaningful and consistent student advising
Provide planning support for advising events and initiatives, including faculty support
Serve as an advising resource for all chairs and faculty
Answer student questions and meet with students as needed
Serve as the advisor to transfer students
Supervise the part-time advising consultants in the Advising Commons
Coordinate CAS110 course for undeclared students
Manage communication and enrollment for incoming class
Coordinate with the Registrar's Office and chairs on the degree-audit process
Enhance CAS' experiential learning initiative, including managing internships and student grants
Collaborate with director of career development in management of the Advising Commons and promotion of the signature, 360-degree model of advising
Maintain and update advising portions of CAS360 website
Evaluate transfer credits for students transferring to Quinnipiac, and students taking courses at other institutions and as part of study abroad programs; advise students on plans to take courses abroad
Serve on the university-wide Advising Council
Review revisions to the university catalog for the departments and college
Coordinate and plan College participation in recruitment and orientation events, alumni and parents weekend, and ancillary advising opportunities
Coordinate Work study postings and supervise the work study program for the college
Manage the work study budget and students for the College
Participate in the governance of the College of Arts and Sciences in coordination with the Dean, Associate Deans and Director of Career Development
May teach one course per semester, if appropriate

Education Requirements:
Master's degree required

Qualifications:

2-3 years of experience in advising students
Strategic planning skills
Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication, including public presentations
Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills and strong attention to detail
Demonstrated attention to detail and organizational skills
Project management and coordination experience
Commitment to contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community
