Assistant Professor in Architectural Design and the Humanities

The School of Architecture at Dalhousie University invites applications for a tenure stream Assistant Professor in Architectural Design and the Humanities, whose teaching and research focus is Architectural History, Theory and Criticism. The anticipated start date is July 2022.

The candidate should demonstrate: a) promise in research and scholarship in architectural humanities as evidenced by a dossier of research accomplishment; and b) ability to teach design studio, as evidenced in a design and/or design teaching portfolio. A professional degree in architecture (e.g. BArch or MArch or equivalent) and a PhD are required. The successful candidate will be expected to teach architectural design studio, undergraduate lecture courses in global architectural history and theory, graduate seminars in their specialty, and advance the discipline through research. With Atlantic Canada’s history of colonial settlement and global trade, preference will be given to candidates specializing in Indigenous, colonial or post-colonial histories of architecture, building processes, and/or settlements. We are seeking a person who is interested in working with colleagues to develop and deliver a shared curriculum.
